Is your household plagued by a oven that works poorly, or not at all? An oven is one of those appliances we'd have a very hard time without. Even simple recipes and quick meals require use of the oven, and it can be frustrating if yours isn't working. With all we expect from this appliance, it's no wonder they break down over time. Some of these solutions can also be used to just increase the quality of your oven and even out heating!

If these solutions don't work for you, don't worry- a trained appliance repair technician can professionally repair or enhance your oven quickly and affordably. It's nice to be able to fix what we can on our own, but sometimes it is really necessary to call in a professional. Only attempt what you are comfortable with and don't be afraid to call a professional for help or advice. Whether you need home appliance repair or commercial appliance repair, a professional can have your important appliances working like new in no time.

Appliance Maintenance and Repair Tips

Before you call a professional, assess the problem and see if you can provide a fix at home. Many appliance repairs can be completed at home. Consult you user's manual for important troubleshooting tips, useful diagrams, and operation advice. ALWAYS remove appliances from power and shut off gas when appropriate. Gas leaks are nothing to fool around with, and neither is appliance repair- call your utility company or a certified repair professional if you run into problems or feel uncomfortable servicing an appliance yourself.

Issue: Oven door stuck closed

Solution: Door latch or self-clean latch may be jammed. You will need to disassemble the oven and realign latches so they can move freely again. You also may need to replace the latch. Consult your user's manual for disassembly instructions. If you cannot complete the steps, fail to locate the problem, or feel uncomfortable, a professional appliance repair technician can help you.

Issue: Oven doesn't heat/ turn on

Solution: First of all, check the power. Are plugs fully secured in the outlet? Is the outlet delivering the proper amount of power to the oven? Are there burnt/damaged wires or fuses? Carefully examine the power cords and outlet to determine if this is the cause. If it is not, you may have a more complex problem that will require the help of a professional appliance repair service.

If heat is an issue, inspect the bake element. The bake element is a black tube near the bottom of the oven and should glow red during normal operation. If this has burned out, it will need replaced. The oven igniter may have an issue as well. If the igniter is not glowing or glows for 90 seconds without igniting a flame, it is not working properly. Consult your manual for instructions on how to replace or repair these parts, or contact a professional who can provide a quick appliance fix.

Issue: Oven heats poorly/ unevenly

Solution: Check the door gasket- a piece on the oven frame that ensures a tight closure. If air is escaping during cooking, this is likely your issue. Replace the frame gasket for an easy repair by removing the old one and guiding a replacement around the door frame, starting at the top. If your gasket is NOT frame mounted, do not attempt this replacement/oven repair on your own. Call a professional for appliance reparation service.
